Senior Home Safety Assessment

Safety and fall prevention recommendations for common areas of your home

Fall prevention is a serious issue as we age

A simple thing can change your life — like slipping on a rug or losing your balance getting out of the shower.

If you fall, you could break a bone, which could be the start of more serious problems, such as a visit to the hospital, disability, or even loss of independence.

Did you know?

  • 1 in 3 adults over age 65 falls each year

  • 55% of falls occur in the home, and another 23% occur outside, near the home

  • Falls account for 25% of ALL hospital admissions and 40% of nursing home admissions

“A Home Safety Assessment helps deter debilitating fall injuries, which can challenge aging safely at home and result in the loss of independence.”

Home safety for seniors

A home safety assessment is a professional evaluation to identify and eliminate potential hazards.

The good news is that by proactively examining the safety of your home and making small changes, you may reduce your risk for injury and increase your ability to live independently in your own house for as long as possible.

“I can’t thank you enough!”

I had no idea that my home was so unprepared! After a thorough assessment, Porchlight sat down with me and went through a list of several low cost (and in some cases no-cost) recommendations, in order of priority, that will make my home safe for the future.
